nosferatu

this evening was special. bummsratte, myself and a friend of us went to see nosferatu. yes, the 1922 mute movie by f.w. murnau! the little cinema was packed with about 80 people or so. there was even live piano music. to show the movie at the correct speed, they had to install a beamer and dvdplayer, because the standard projector just plays 24fps movies, but old movies like nosferatu were shot in 18fps. playing such an old movie in a new projector results in quite a increase of speed, thats probably why old movies on tv look so funny (pal-tv has 25fps).

windows-free-zone

i hereby declare my nerdcave a windows-free-zone. it is not allowed to have any computer running windows, nor is it allowed to ask any questions regarding technical support for the evil os. any such questions will be answered with a knoppix or ubuntu cd (depends which one is in reach). repeated noncompliance will result in an overnight bofh style linux installlation. i wanted to get some of this cool yellow windows free zone barricade tape, but unfortunately i cant find it here in germany. if somebody knows a shop in germany or one shipping here, offering the tape, feel free to contact me :).

sport for nerds

sounds weird, doesn't it? that's what i thought, too, until i watched last weeks editions of polylux and tracks. for those of you who are not familiar with these programmes; the first runs on ard (first german state television), the latter on arte (a cooperation between german and french tv stations). while both are made for a younger audience, polylux is more satire and has more political topics and tracks focuses on music and entertainment. for the record: the presenter of polylux works also for the german editorial department of tracks. this said, i can come to the actual topic of this post now: house gymnastics. house gymnastics is a new fun sport which was invented by two brits with too much time and narrow houses with lots of stairs. now why is this a good sport for nerds? well, simply put, because you won't have to leave your house (given you have stairs and walls and stuff like that) to work out. and you feel like spiderman or your wall-climbing superhero of choice. the exercises are a bit difficult to explain, so i suggest you check out the instructions and pictures on their homepage.
